Several of the candidates going for the number 10 job have promised additional funding for education throughout the country however, there has been comments made after the pledges that may worry teachers.
Matt Hancock has promised an additional £3bn to schools; which is great, but then goes on to say that he wants to prepare our pupils for ‘the jobs of tomorrow.’ Possibly a hint that this funding could be for the apprenticeship levy which, now, is already costing schools and not supporting them. Contrasting to Boris Johnson, offering funding to the highest possible level, but then throws in that there will be special funding for London schools, and with the promise of giving secondary school students more, can we expect primary schools to get less funding? I won’t mention Michael Gove’s pledge, as amusing as it is.
No matter what the extra funding is, whether it be £1 million or £ £1 billion, headteachers should be able to control the funding. I do not see this happening though, do you?
