Overseas Teachers Driven Away from UK

There are several schemes currently being run by the government and external agencies to recruit overseas teachers, however, research released today shows that out of all the teachers that came to England to teach via these programmes from 2017 to present, only half wanted to stay. Poor pupil behaviour and heavy staff workload are putting these teachers off, a lot of them stating that they are ‘struggling to cope’ for certain behaviours they have seen.

One of the main issues that was released was that England schools were selecting overseas teachers who are specialists in a certain discipline and put them into a differing subject; which some had ‘never taught’ the subjects. One of the teachers even described England’s educational system like ‘drinking from a fire hose.’

With the ‘recruitment crisis’ currently going on, especially as we are closing in on the end of this academic year; overseas teachers and international recruitment will, very soon, become the norm for most schools throughout the country unless something is done. The government need to provide allocated funding to combat against behaviour in schools as well as giving our teachers a decent wage to keep retention.
