A new study has been released stating that over 8,000 children with an education, health and care (EHC) plan are awaiting a provision for a school place. Figures from 2017, show that a little of 4,000 were in this same position; meaning that in as little as two years, students without any access to education has doubled.
Legal action
Tomorrow will see the first of its kind in education, three families are taking legal action against the chancellor of the exchequer and secretary of state over funding for local authorities for special educational needs and to fight for the rights of a ‘fair education for all.’ Without decent funding, how can teaching assistants or support staff be hired?
Rikama Education have been reporting on budgets and funding cuts for a long time, we believe that it is appalling that parents of children with SEND feel the need to take our government to court to try and get their own children a fair education. We are living in the 21st century and live in one of the richest countries in the world; why are our children being failed by the system?
