Job Description

Rikama Education are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support with learning and teaching in a local Primary School in Rochester. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a positive impact on students’ learning and progression. The role will initially be temporary with the potential to become permanent based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Student Learning: Assist in delivering engaging and effective Maths lessons under the guidance of the class teacher, helping students from KS1 to KS2.
• Small Group & 1:1 Interventions: Lead small group sessions or 1:1 intervention, focusing on students who require additional support to achieve their potential in core subjects.
• Lesson Planning & Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver structured learning activities to students, either independently or in collaboration with the teaching staff.
• Classroom Management: Supervise students and ensure that behaviour is conducive to learning, maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Assessment & Feedback: Monitor student progress, provide feedback to teachers, and contribute to the assessment of student performance.
• Support SEN Students: Work closely with the SEN team to ensure tailored support for students with special educational needs, modifying work as necessary.
• Administrative Duties: Assist with marking, preparing learning resources, and other administrative tasks related to the Maths department.
• Contribute to School Life: Participate in staff meetings, training, and school activities as required, and uphold the school’s ethos and values.

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with specific experience supporting Core Subjects.
• HLTA qualification.
• Strong subject knowledge, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage small groups and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach to working with young people.
• A commitment to supporting students in achieving their full potential.
• A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).

Desirable:

• Experience working with SEN students.
• Behaviour management skills.
• Familiarity with the Primary school curriculum and exam preparation.
